For the last seven months, India skipper Virat Kohli has been hogging the headline for various positive reasons—from his disciplined life that resulted in his stunning fitness to his record-breaking spree, which now became the talk of the world cricket. When he ended the first day of the Hyderabad Test, being not out on 111, it was almost certain, the Indian captain would get a bigger one. Before that double century against Bangladesh, Kohli converted the last four hundreds to 150 plus, amongst which three were double century. Kohli converted just one to 150 plus in his first 11 centuries.
However by doing so, Kohli continued his record-breaking spree, surpassing the legendary Sir Donald Bradman and Rahul Dravid by becoming the first batsman to score double hundreds in four successive Test series.
Kohli's double tons came in the series against the West Indies, New Zealand, England and now Bangladesh, which is in India for a one-off Test. Bradman and Dravid had achieved the feat in three successive series.
Kohli hit his maiden double hundred (200) at North Sound against the West Indies in July 2016 followed by 211 against New Zealand at Indore in October. This was followed by his current career-best score of 235 against England in Mumbai in December and now 204 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.
His golden form is attributed by his stunning fitness as Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma once revealed how a butter chicken loving Kohli gave up on the culinary delights to take his game to a whole new level and how he stuck to hard fitness regime to get him super fit. And his strategy is to take as many as singles he could take , which gave him the freedom of not taking much risk as well as leaving the opposition captain in disarray position to set a fielding for him.
Of his 204 against Bangladesh, only 96 runs came in a boundary, meaning he took 108 runs through singles and that even this runs came at a strike rate of 83 was looking awesome particularly. But despite taking so many singles, he still looked fresh when he was dismissed, which was the testament of his ‘inhuman’ fitness.
While he excelled in personal front, his innovative and positive approach towards the game was the reason of making him successful as Test captain. He never hesitates to take risk and at the same time, backs his teammates. He backed up Ajinkya Rahane despite Karun Nair’s triple century because Rahane was more proven performer.
After the end of the day two of the one-off Test against Bangladesh, Wriddhiman Saha revealed how Kohli inspired him to be more confident and how  Kohli valued the team’s cause ahead of all things.
Kohli also forced to take Wriddhiman in the squad after he came back from the injury. Like Rahane’s replacement Nair, his replacement Parthiv Patel also did well to stake a claim in the squad.
“Whenever one bats with Virat, he backs everybody, he would always tell you that play your natural game. If you feel you can hit the ball, go for it. Not that if you are new to the crease you have to defend. That’s why I tried playing that shot (referring to the missed stumping chance) but Virat said that it’s not a problem, if you again get a chance, hit it.  He always gives you confidence which is a plus,” Saha said.
Saha convinced Kohli to take the review when umpire gave him out on 180. But second time when he was again given out on 204, Kohli was reluctant to take review despite Saha’s insistence. And Saha revealed Kohli didn’t take review only for the cause of the team.“During the second time, I was about to ask Virat but he was hundred percent sure that he was out. Also it was umpire’s call and even if there was a faint touch, it would have been out. Virat didn’t take a chance and saved a DRS for India.”
