Students attend classes under open sky as building turns risky

Students of Anandanagar Government Primary schools in Rupsha upazila have to attend their classes under the open sky as their school building turned vulnerable, reports UNB.
Rabiul Islam, acting headmaster of the school, said the school building was identified as a risky one in 2010 and they started running classes outdoor in 2015 as the building turned extremely vulnerable.
He said the authorities concerned declared the building abandoned in 2016.The school has got 170 students from play group to class V, Rabiul said adding that it is not possible for them to take outdoor classes during the summer and monsoon.The authorities concerned have declared 545 government primary schools abandoned in 10 districts under Khulna division due to the dilapidated conditions of the school buildings, hampering educational activities of over 90,000 students.
Of these, 105 schools are in Khulna, 81 in Bagerhat, 49 in Jessore, 31 in Magura, 35 in Kushita, 32 in Chuadanga, 78 in Narail, 44 in Jhenidah, 76 in Satkhira and 14 in Meherpur districts.
Sadhon Ranjan Ghosh, an education expert, Khulna, said, “The government is distributing free textbooks and providing stipends to students but we couldn’t yet ensure safe school buildings for them.”
