The three-day ‘Asian Curatorial Forum 2017’ has begun yesterday at the auditorium of the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital. The event has been organised jointly by Bengal Foundation, Britto Arts Trust and the National Gallery of BSA, in partnership with the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts and the National Culture and Arts Foundation (Taiwan).
The three-day programme is featuring 14 art professional from 12 Asian countries.
Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury and director of Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan) Teh I Chu spoke about their expectation and prospects of the event on the opening day of ‘Asian Curatorial Forum’.
Yesterday’s programme featured two panel discussions. The topic of the first panel discussion was ‘A question of perspective: scale and perimeter of action’ where the discussants were Tayeba Begum Lipi, Sangeeta Thapa and Pichaya Suphavanij, Visual Arts Programme Adviser of Bengal Foundation Hadrien Diez was the moderator. Participants to the discussion hail from very different professional contexts, from ‘grass-root’ art organisations to hybrid art initiatives of various dimensions to ‘traditional’ public art institutions.
The programme ended with a presentation on a Bangladeshi art platform ‘Longitude, Latitude’, presented by Shehzad Chowdhury.
The Asian Curatorial Forum aims to bring fresh perspectives on shared issues in the field of art curating across the continent.
