Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) has organised a five-day film festival at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University in the capital marking the International Mother Language Day. The 16th edition of the festival, titled ‘Amar Bhasar Chalachitra’ featuring 20 Bangla films, will begin today. Most of the films in this festival have been made by the contemporary Bangladeshi filmmakers. Besides, some Indian classics are also included in the festival.
On the opening day today, four films—‘Jana Aranya’ (The Middleman) directed by Satyajit Ray, ‘Ei Ghor Ei Songsar’ directed by Malek Afsari, ‘Chhutir Ghonta’ written and directed by Azizur Rahman, and Indian Bangla ‘Cinemawala’ by Kaushik Ganguli and starring Paran Bandyopadhyay and Parambrata Chatterjee will be screened at 10am, 1:30pm, 4pm and 6:30pm respectively.
On the second day, tomorrow, two Indian Bengali films ‘Subarnarekha’ directed by Ritwik Ghatak and ‘Khela’ by Rituparno Ghosh will be screened at 10am and 1:30pm respectively. On the other hand, Humayun Ahmed-directed ‘Anil Bagchir Ekdin’ and Tauquir Ahmed-directed ‘Oggatonama’ will also be screened on the same day at 4pm and 6:30pm.
On February 12, Tareque Masud-directed two films ‘Matir Moina’ and Adam Surat’ will be screened at 1:30pm and 4pm. Besides, ‘Mahanayak’ (The Great Hero) by Alamgir Kabir starring Bulbul Ahmed and Indo-Bangla joint venture ‘Shankhachil’ will be screened at 10am and 6:30pm respectively.
‘Pich Dhala Poth’, a 1968 Bangla film directed by Ehtesham and starring Razzak-Babita, will be screened at 10am on February 13. Other three films—‘Palabi Kothay’ starring Shabana and Humayun Faridi, ‘Rokto’ starring Roshan-Pori Moni and ‘Jalaler Golpo’ (Jalal’s Story) starring Mosharraf Karim-Moushumi Hamid will be screened at 1:30pm, 4pm and 6:30pm respectively.
On the concluding day, on February 14, a documentary film ‘Stop Genocide’ by eminent filmmaker Zahir Raihan will be screened at 10am, while feature film ‘Hotat Bristy’ will be screened at 11:30am, ‘Shikari’ starring ‘Shakib Khan and Srabanti Chatterjee at 2:10pm and ‘Monpura’ starring Chanchal Chowdhury-Farhana Mili will be screened at 6pm.
To promote Bangla films and to help change the taste of audiences and bring out more talented filmmakers, DUFS has been organising the annual film festival with the slogan ‘Sustha Chalachitra, Sustha Darshak’ since its inception in 2000.
