Kunming flower industry aims at output value of five billion yuan

This year, according to the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Agriculture, Kunming will continue to leverage its comparative advantages to further develop its flower industry. Kunming aims to build itself into an “International Capital of Flowers”. This expansion should achieve a cumulative output value of five billion yuan.

Last year, brand flowers developed rapidly in Kunming, and the production of fresh cut flowers gradually expanded from Chenggong and Guandu to Jinning, Songming and twelve other counties and districts. The flower planting area increased to 258,000 mu, including 100,000 mu of fresh dedicated to cut flowers. In total, 6.68 billion cut flowers, leaves and branches were produced. Export of these items  amounted to 88 million US dollars. This year, Kunming will maintain a flower planting area of more than 250,000 mu, while endeavoring to achieve an output value of five billion yuan.The province will establish a number of planting bases with a per mu profit of 5,000 to 10,000 yuan. These planting bases are expected to produce 5.5 billion cut flowers, of which 90 percent will be sold in other areas and more than 40 percent will be marked for foreign export, an official at the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Agriculture said.
