Cooperation must for fair polls, syas president

President Abdul Hamid yesterday said the cooperation from all political parties and general people to hold free, fair and credible elections in the country is a must, reports UNB.
"Apart from the Election Commission (EC), cooperation from political parties and general people is a must to hold a free, fair and credible election," he told a meeting with outgoing election commissioners at Bangabhaban.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
The outgoing election commissioners, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, made the farewell call on the President in the afternoon.
During the meeting, Rakibuddin said the EC had tried its best to perform their constitutional duty overcoming various barriers. "When we assumed office, we’d a commitment to holding all elections in a free, fair and neutral manner. And we’d tried our best to do so," he said.
Expressing gratitude to the President and common people for their cooperation in completing their assignment, the election commissioners said the President's instructions helped them perform their duties.
Four election commissioners -- Mohammad Abdul Mobarak, Mohammad Abu Hafiz,
Brig Gen (retd) Md Zabed Ali and Md Shah Nawaz, and EC Secretary Mohammad Abdullah -- were present.
