Construction of Shuvra  Memorial Hospital begins

The construction work of ‘Shuvra Mukherjee Memorial Hospital’, a hospital named after Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s wife Shuvra Mukherjee, was formally launched in Narail yesterday. Vice-chairman of Bengal Group Jasim Uddin inaugurated the construction work of the proposed 50-bed hospital at Banshvita, suburb of Narail district town. Trustee Board members of Shuvra Mukherjee Foundation, Sharmin Group chairman Ismail Hossain, chairman of Labib Group Salauddin Alamgir, Narail district council chairman Sohrab Hossain, district Awami League president Advocate Subas Chandra Bose and relatives of Shuvra Mukherjee were present at the ceremony. Bengal Group is funding the hospital.
Shuvra Mukherjee, who was born in Bhadrabila village of Narail sadar upazila on September 17 in 1947, breathed her last on August 18 in 2015.
Two killed in road accident
BAGERHAT: Two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured as a truck hit their motorbike in Shambagat area under Fakirhat upazila yesterday, reports BSS.
The victims are M Osman Ali, 54, resident of Bidyarbahon village in Mongla upazila and Sohagh Talukder, 32, of Khorakata village in Sharankhola upazila.
Sub-inspector of Katakhali highway police M Jamal Uddin said the accident occurred when a sand-laden truck hit the motorbike on the Mongla-Khulna highway yesterday afternoon, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
Arms, ammunition recovered
Chapainawabganj: Members of Border Guard Battalion (BGB) recovered one pistol, two magazines and four bullets from Chouko border point in Shibganj upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of the border force challenged a man for his suspicious movement in the area around 11am, said Lt Col SM Abul Ahsan, commander of Chapainawabganj BGB battalion-9.
Sensing danger, he fled the scene leaving behind a bag.
Woman, child return from Indian jail

A Bangladeshi woman and her child returned home on Monday night through Benapole check post after languishing in an Indian jail for one year. Indian police handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station.
 Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration Police Iqbal Hossain said Rahena Khanam, 20, and her two-year-old daughter Jannatara entered Indian territory one and a half years ago without valid documents through Jessore border. Later, Indian police arrested them from Kolkata in West Bengal. After filing a case, police produced them before an Indian court that sentenced them to one year imprisonment for illegally crossing the border.
