Police recovered parts of the skeleton of a man, allegedly killed by his wife, daughter and in-laws, from Bhaluka of Mymensingh on Sunday.
At a press briefing, police yesterday said Abul Hashem, 55, of village Aangergara in Bhaluka upazila was killed some three months ago.
Hashem’s wife Asma Akhter, 45, developed an illicit love affair with Mahmudul Islam Maha, 32, of the same village.
Hearing about the love affair Hashem retuned home from Saudi Arabia some three months back and wanted to know about the money he sent to her. He also asked her about the alleged relationship with Maha that created a conflict between them.
According to police sources, Asma allegedly planned to kill Hashem and she mixed sedative drugs with Hashem’s meal on November 11 night, last year. Later Asma, her daughter Mukta, 21, brother Saiful Islam, 40, and lover Maha allegedly killed Hashem and cut his body into several parts.
They later dumped the body parts in a hole used for keeping poultry farm’s by-products at the village.
Asma told her family members and neighbours that Hashem went missing and he might have been abducted. She also lodged a complaint with Bhaluka police station regarding her husband’s missing, said Mamun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka police station.
As police did not find any clues behind the abduction, they involved local people to reveal real clues behind the matter, said the OC.
Local people found a part of the body without head, hands and legs at the hole on November 18, last year and informed police.
On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the part and identified Hashem’s body, police said. Victim’s brother Abdul Mannan lodged a case with Bhaluka Police Station accusing unnamed persons on the same day.
On suspicion, police arrested Asma and her daughter but could not reveal fact of the killing. They are in jail now.
As the case was handed to detective branch (DB) of police here, a team of detectives arrested Maha from Tongi in Gazipur on February 4 and the same team also arrested Saiful Islam from Birganj upazila in Dinajpur on February 5.
After interrogation, they confessed their involvement in the killing, said police.
Following their statements, police recovered the skeletons of hands, legs and skull from the same hole yesterday.
