A Sirajganj court has sent to jail Shahjadpur Municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, the prime suspect in journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul murder case, after police produced him before the court. Sirajganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Morshed Alam passed the order yesterday afternoon.
The court also fixed February 13 for hearing on a remand plea after Investigation Officer Monir Hossain, inspector of Shahjadpur Police Station, sought seven day police remand of Mator Halimul Haque Miru, who is also the district Awami League organising secretary, said Md Ataur Rahman, GRO of the court.
The court also asked the investigation officer to submit case documents so that they could decide on the remand petition.
Abdul Hakim Shimul, a local correspondent of Daily Samakal, died after getting shot in the head while covering a clash between two AL factions in Sirajganj on Friday.
One of the factions comprised the supporters of ousted Shahjadpur Municipality AL President Abdur Rahim, while the other group included AL activists loyal to Municipal Mayor Miru. Police arrested Mayor Miru from Shyamoli in the capital on Sunday.
