‘Dhaka International Poets Summit 2017’ was held on Friday at the National Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital. Hosted by Kathak, Bangladesh-Poetry Initiative, this event focused on getting poets and poetry lovers together to define a path for the bilateral development and propagation of the poetic arts in Bangladesh and other countries of the world.
The objective is to hold this summit and its agenda, as a mean for providing the appropriate dialogues, setting and space for discussions centring in the various strategies for developing poetry.
Austrian poet Manfred Chobot, Argentinean poet Jona Burghardt, German poet Tobias Burghardt, two poets from Puerto Rico Luz Maria Lopez and Maria de los Angeles Camacho Rivas have been awarded with ‘Kathak Literary Award 2017’ for their extraordinary contribution in world literary.
Other important poets from Bangladesh Asad Chowdhury, Hayat Saif, Mohammad Nurul Huda, Habibullah Sirajee, Jahidul Huq and Aminur Rahman attended the summit.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon was present as the chief guest at the event, while Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan presided over the summit and delivered speech.
Seven books were launched in the programme, these were 1) 100 Poems from Bangladesh 2) ‘Bishho Shera Samakaleen Soy Kabir Kabita’ 3) ‘Manfred Chobot’s Poems’ 4) ‘Summit Anthology’ 5) ‘Godhuli Logon’ 6) Perpetual Diary (Russia) 7) Perpetual Diary (Germany). All these books were edited and translated by Poet Aminur Rahaman and published by Adorn Publication.
The atmosphere became melodious and rhythmic with spectacular recitation by the invited poets. Eminent personalities, artists, poets, painters and citizens from the society attended the event.
