2 shops fined Tk 7,000 in Rajshahi
Two food shops were fined Tk 7,000 on charges of selling unhygienic and substandard foods in the district yesterday. A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the raid in Kakrabari area and found Hazi Stores and Anwar Store guilty. The money was realized instantly. Apurba Kumar Adhikary, Assistant Director of DNCRP, said such drive will continue in the days ahead to protect the consumers' interest.


City market catches fire
A market in the capital's Gulistan area caught fire on Thursday night. Duty officer at the Fire Service Central Control Room Mizanur Rahman said the fire originated on the 3rd floor of 'Zaker Super Market' around 7:40pm. On information, 15 firefighting units rushed in and brought the fire under control around 8:45pm, he said adding that it was still not clear what caused the fire.


‘Amar Ekushey’ programmes in Rangpur
The district administration have finalsed elaborate daylong programmes to observe the ‘Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2017’ in a befitting manner in Rangpur on February 21.
The programmes were finalised at a meeting held the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Thursday afternoon with Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar in the chair, official sources said.
The observance will begin at one minute past after midnight on February 21 when Mayor of Rangpur Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu will first place wreaths at Central Shaheed Minar here to pay due respect to Language Movement Martyrs.
Later, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector  General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Khondker Golam Faruk will place wreaths there.
Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and Police Super Mizanur Rahman along with other officials will also place floral wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non-government departments and organisations.  


13 dwelling houses, 11 gutted
At least 13 dwelling houses and 11 shops were gutted in an incident of devastating fire at Follyatoli bazaar under Halishahor thana in Chittagong city early yesterday. Police and fire brigade sources said the fire originated from electric short circuit at a dwelling house at around 4 am today and quickly engulfed the adjacent residence and shops. Four fire fighting vehicles from Agrabad commercial area extinguished the fire at around 6.30 am. Fire service sources said valuables of 13 dwelling houses and 11 shops worth about Taka six lakh were burnt in the fire.
