RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion yesterday urged industrial labourers to learn about their rights and unite in demand of their rights, reports BSS. They also stressed the need for creating wider awareness on occupational safety and health among the workers and employers of the industrial sector in their workplaces. Ensuring better working conditions at factories is also important to reduce health risk of the workers and people leaving in the areas.
They were addressing the closing and certificate-giving ceremony of a five-day labour law and rights training workshop in the city yesterday. Directorate of Labour organised the training in Industrial Relation Institute where 42 labourers from various industries attended.
With Principal of the Institute Monirul Islam in the chair, Course Coordinator Alamgir Hossain, Lecturers Abul Bashar and Lutfor Rahman and a tea company manager Abul Hasnat spoke on the occasion.
"It is vital that the workers of the factories and industrial sector have access to information regarding the risks associated with the sector and knows the way to reduce the risk. It is very important that we ensure the workers of the sector are consulted when we plan a programme for them to have the maximum impact. I hope this workshop will provide us with much needed insight of the sector," said Monirul Islam.
He said need-based vocational training for the youths coming from poor families is very important but their post-training employment has become an urgent need for eradicating unemployment problem.
