Muktagachha upazila has been declared as "Early Marriage Free upazila" yesterday, reports BSS.
Salahuddin Ahmed Mukti, MP, declared it at a function organized by Upazila Parishad and World Vision Bangladesh on the upazila premises as chief guest.
About 1,800 students from different educational institutes, parents, teachers, journalist, government officials, marriage registrar, NGO officers, and religious leaders attained the programme.
This program started in May 2016. World Vision Muktagacha ADP, Upazila Administration and Parishad jointly are implementing this programme rigorously from the last eight months.
Deputy Commissioner M Khalilur Rahman presided over the function. Chairman of the upazila parishad M Jakaria Harun, UNO M Julkar Nayan and pourashabha chairmanM Shahidul Islam were present, among others.
The chief guest said child marriage is a curse. It has a bad impact on population growth, women's health and also cause to the untimely death of women.
Everybody should unite against the curse of child and early marriage and play significant role in this regard to build a peaceful society, he added.
Deputy Commissioner said Mymensingh district will be declared as early marriage free district by June 2017.
