The High Court (HC) yesterday ordered the Narayanganj Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court to transfer the case filed over humiliation of headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court (CMM) immediately. The HC also ordered the authorities concerned to submit the judicial probe report and other relevant documents over the incident to the Dhaka CMM court. It also asked the Dhaka CMM court to proceed with the humiliation case in accordance with the law after receiving the case documents.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order after accepting the judicial inquiry report which found locals lawmaker AKM Salim Osman guilty of ordering humiliation of the headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School at Bandar in Narayanganj.
The HC also disposed of the suo moto ruling it issued on May 18 last year asking the government to explain in two weeks why it should not be directed to take necessary legal action against Jatiya Party MP Salim Osman and others involved in humiliating the teacher.Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman on Thursday submitted the probe report at the attorney general’s office. The probe report also found responsible a 10-member group for humiliating the headmaster.
Earlier on August 10, 2016, the High Court ordered the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate to conduct a judicial inquiry into the incident and report to the High Court. The judicial probe report says lawmaker Salim Osman cannot escape responsibility of publicly humiliating headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta in Narayanganj. The report also says that the headmaster was humiliated and subjected to physical tortures on orders Salim Osman gave on the spot.
On May 13 last year, Shyamal Kanti, the headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area, was beaten up by a mob and made to do squats holding his ears in presence of local MP AKM Salim Osman.
