Flute fiesta, award exhibition underway at Nat’l Museum

A five-day exhibition featuring a number of awards earned globally by the celebrated flutist Ustad Azizul Islam, along with his solo flute recital on classical music, is now underway at the Nalinikanta Bhattasali Gallery of the National Museum. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the five-day exhibition and flute fiesta in presence of noted social and cultural personalities on Friday evening. The event will conclude tomorrow.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will attend the closing ceremony as chief guest, while Dhaka University vice Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddiqui, Chairman of UGC Abdul Mannan and Chairman of National Museum Hashem Khan will be present as special guests at the tomorrow’s event. Noted cultural figure Kamal Lohani will preside over the closing session.
Ustad Azizul Islam--a skilful and devoted flute recital, once a sailor by profession from the first batch of Marine Academy, Chittagong--was born in Rajbari district in 1944.
Ustad Azizul Islam had his first ‘talim’ (lessons) briefly from late Priyada Ranjan Sengupata of Arya Sangee tSamity, Chittagong, followed by teaching from vocalist Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan, who used to reside in Chittagong. l
