BNP senior leader Mirza Abbas yesterday warned that their party will resist the next general election if it is not held under a neutral Election Commission (EC) in a healthy atmosphere, reports UNB. Speaking at a milad mahfil, he also said Awami League must engage in talks with BNP to resolve the country's ongoing political 'crisis' as it represents people. "BNP is the only party which represents the country's people. So, you (AL) will have to discuss with us the problem for its solution. If there is no dialogue and there is no stronger and neutral Election Commission then we must think about the next election and its resistance," the BNP leader said.
Dhaka city east unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal arranged the programme at BNP's Nayapaltan central office seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Khilgaon thana unit ex-JCD leader Nuruzzaman Jony and New Market unit leader Mahbubur Rahman Bappi. They were killed in torture reportedly by law enforcers.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent comment that it is not her party’s responsibility to rescue BNP as it has fallen in a trap, Abbas said, “I would like to ask her who told her that BNP has caught in the trap. It’s you (AL), not BNP, has fallen in the trap.”
