Grenade seized in Panchagarh
Panchagarh: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a powerful live grenade from Sarialjat border point in Tetulia upazila on Thursday, reports UNB.
A patrol team of BGB-18 recovered the grenade, kept in a polythene bag, from near the main pillar No 436 in the morning, said commanding officer Lt Col Al Hakim Mohammad Naushad.
The grenade was taken to the BGB camp.

Shops gutted by fire in Barguna
BARGUNA: A total of 17 shops were gutted by fire at Kholpotua Bazar in Bamna Upazila of the district early yesterday, reports BSS.
Shop owners estimated the damage caused by the fire at around Taka 1.50 crore.
Officer of Mothbaria Firefighters Abdul Haque said the fire originated from an electric short circuit inside the market. Showkat Hasanur Rahman Rimon MP distributed Taka 5000 to each owner of the gutted shops.

College girl ‘commits suicide’
Chapainawabganj: A college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Arambagh in the municipality area here yesterday, reports UNB.
 The deceased was identified as Nazmun Nahar Munni, 21, daughter of Saifuddin Alam and an honours second year student of History Department in Chapainawabganj Government College.
 Roni Saha, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, said Munni along with his sister used to live in a rented house in the area.
 Locals spotted her hanging body in her room in the morning and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
 Police primarily suspected that Munni committed suicide but the reason behind suicide could not be known.

Pitha festival held in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: A day-long Pitha Utsab (rice cakes festival) was held at Shishu Paribar here on Thursday evening, reports BSS.
Sources concerned said nearly 200 orphan girl students living in the Shishu Paribar organized the festival which was followed by a cultural show.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umme Salma Tanzia attended the function as chief gust while Faridpur Pourasabha Mayor Sheikh Mahatab Ali Methu was the special guest. Deputy director of Social Welfare SM Ali Ahsan presided over the function.
DC Tanzia appreciated the discipline maintained by inmates of the Shishu Paribar and advised them to carry on their studies to be self dependent in future life. She also awarded two former inmates of the orphanage who after passing from here have been able to attain chance of admitting into the government nursing training institute.
To mark the occasion, the Shishu Paribar students attired in colourful dresses presented a cultural show that enthralled the audience, including high officials, elite and NGO personnel.
The cultural function over, the invited guests were entertained with 16 varieties of various delicious pithas.
