New DU deans take charge
Newly elected deans of Arts and Law faculties of Dhaka University (DU) took charges here today, said a DU release. Professor Abu Md Delwar Hossain took charge as Dean of Arts faculty while Professor Rahmat Ullah took charge as Law faculty Dean. However, the faculty members welcomed the elected deans in their respective faculty. The dean elections to the different faculties of the university were held on January 18, 2017, the release said.
JUJA gets new executive body
SAVAR: Elections to the executive committee of Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) was held on Thursday at its office on the campus amid festivity. Moudud Ahmmed Sujan of the Daily Sun and Shariful Kabir Shamim of the Daily observer have been elected as the president and general secretary respectively of JUJA for a one-year term.
Professor Farid Ahmed of Physics Department also the Chief Election Commissioner announced the result at 2 pm. Election Commissioners Shamima Sultana of Bangla Department and Professor A S M Anwarullah Bhuiyan of Philosophy Department were present, among others, at the result declaration function.
Other elected office bearers are - Vice-President Ariful Islam Nehal of the Samakal, Joint Secretary Saiful Islam of the New Age, Treasurer Abdullah Al Mamun Niloy of Ittefaq, Office Secretary Nur Alam Himel of Banglanews24.com.
Md. Asaduz Zaman of the Daily Star, Hasan al Mahmud of Manab Zamin and Touhidul Islam of Protidiner Sangbad were elected as the executive members to the committee. A total of 18 candidates competed for the nine posts. JU Teachers’ Association, Dhaka University Journalists’ Association, Rajshahi University Journalists’ Association, Jagannath University Journalists’ Association have already congratulated the newly elected JUJA executive body.
Anti-militancy campaign held at IU
KUSHTIA: Islamic University (IU) authority and Coalition against Tobacco, Tracks and Terrorism jointly held an anti-militancy campaign on the campus on Thursday.
The campaign included an anti-militancy procession, discussion and cultural function. Teachers, officials and students of the university brought out the procession from in front of the university administration building with the participation of State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, IU Vice Chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid, Pro-VC Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Prof M Selim Toha.
The procession ended at the university central auditorium after parading main roads of the campus. The discussion meeting was held at Bir Shrestha Hamidur Rahman auditorium around 12.30pm. State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan addressed the function as chief guest while IU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari presided over the programme. The cultural function was held at the university central auditorium.
Certificate awarding held at MIST
The certificate awarding and closing ceremony of ‘Electrical Services Design’ and ‘Microcontroller and Robotics’ was held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Mirpur Cantonment on Thursday under the supervision of the Electrical; Electronics Communication Engineering (EECE) Department.
Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Saiful Islam was present as the chief guest at the ceremony, according to an Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) media release. Prof Islam distributed certificates among the student officers as well as civil students. He also delivered his speech on Engineering. The Electrical Services Design course was conducted from December 18, 2016 to January 17, 2017, where detail discussion and ideas were shared on electrical hazards and their safety, electrical wiring design for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
In the Microcontroller and Robotics course, MIST faculty members, civil and military students of MIST and Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), and representatives from services headquarters participated. Besides the Commandant of MIST Major General Md Abul Khair, ndc and other military; civil officials, a large number of BUP; MIST students were also present.
