A court in Sirajganj yesterday sentenced six people, including two siblings, to life imprisonment for killing a trader in 2007, reports UNB. The convicts are Saiful Islam Hitler, 50, his brother Abdul Hye, 30, sons of Saimuddin; Mokim, 30, son of Sujab Ali; Sultan, 26, son of Baher Ali; Jamil Hossain, 20, son of Saidul Hossain of Raghunathpur village in Sadar upazila; and Majnu, 36, son of Hazrat Ali of Ghatail upazila in Tangail.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each. In case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to suffer six months more in jail. According to the prosecution, Abdus Salam, a trader and son of Jamal Uddin of Raghunathpur village, was stabbed to death by the convicts at Shialkol Bazar in Sadar upazila on October 22, 2007 while returning home over a land dispute. Victim’s father Jamal Uddin filed a case against eight people. On January 7, 2009, police submitted a chargesheet against six accused in the case. After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Session’s Judge Iman Ali Sheikh handed down the verdict.
