Expat killed hours after arrival from KL

A Bangladeshi working in Malaysia was killed by some unidentified miscreants while he was returning to his native village after landing in Dhaka. His body was recovered from Haidarabad area of Gazipur near the Dhaka-Rajshahi rail tracks yesterday morning. The man was identified as Shafikul Islam (38), son of Altab Hossain, of Majuail village under Sirajganj Sadar upazila. Masudul Hasan Billal, local ward councillor of the Gazipur City Corporation, said locals found Shafikul's body lying beside the rail tracks in Haidarabad area and immediately informed the police. Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel from Tongi GRP police station rushed to the spot and sent the body to Dhaka Medical college Hospital for post mortem. The deceased’s identity was confirmed as he was carrying his passport. According to the departure information of the Shahjalal International Airport, Shafikul had left Kuala Lumpur airport for Dhaka at 7pm on Monday. The police and locals suspected that after arriving in Dhaka, Shafikul was returning to his village by a train on Monday night. He might be killed by goons who snatched his luggage and threw him from the running train. But the police are yet to confirm the reason of his death. Alauddin, sub-inspector of the Tongi GRP police outpost, said: “It’s not clear how he was killed. He might be killed in the train or anywhere on his way to his village.”
