Two jailed for child marriage

Jessore: A mobile court here on Monday sentenced two people, including a bridegroom, to seven days’ imprisonment each at Balunda village in Sharsha upazila in connection with the marriage of an underage girl, reports UNB.
The convicts are bridegroom Tariqul Islam, 25, son of Johar Ali of Mahisakura village in the upazila, and Wahab Bulbul, brother-in-law (sister’s husband) of bride Salma.
Locals said Tariqul married Class-IX student Salma, daughter of Nurul Amin of Balunda, on Wednesday night (January 12) with the help of Bulbul.
After scrutinising the documents, Tariqul and Bulbul were produced before executive magistrate Abdus Salam, also Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), who handed down the verdict on Monday.
