The police found the bodies of a woman, her five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son in the city’s Chhoto Diabari area of Mirpur yesterday (Tuesday). The dead were identified as Anika, 22, her daughter Shamima and son Abdullah. The police suspect that the woman might have committed suicide after killing the children. Darussalam police inspector (investigation) Farukul Aalam said the bodies were found in house No. 29/1 of Chhoto Diabari around 2:45pm. Anika’s body was hanging from the ceiling and the children had been hacked to death. The door was locked from within. Inspector Fakrul said Anika's husband, Shamim, who hails from Faridpur district, had gone to attend the rally of the Prime Minister at the Suhrawardy Udyan, marking Bangabandhu’s homecoming day. "After questioning him, we may learn something about the murders," he added. Delwar, friend of Shamim and owner of the Mayer Dua saloon in the area, said the couple was facing severe financial crisis. They could not even pay their house rent for the past three months. The house is owned by Abu Sayeed, who

is a teacher of Monipuripara High School.
There are 29 small rooms in the house and the couple was living in the house for the past two years.
Some neighbours told reporters that Shamim left the house after an altercation. He did not even have breakfast. The bodies have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The police found a suicide note in the room. Anika writes: ‘‘Shamim, for your single mistake such a big incident has occurred... You think about all but not me. I am leaving all of you. I shall not stay in the world as I told you. My babies will be where shall I be. But my only pain is that I could not see the faces of my
mother, brother, sister, grandmother and many others. I am taking my babies with me. You stay well... I fed my babies with these two hands, I massaged oil on their bodies, but now I have killed them with these two hands. Please pardon me. It was in our fate, and no one is responsible for this incident.”
