Five people, including two children, were killed as a train rammed a private car at Goalbathan level crossing in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur district yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Saki Akter, wife of Ripon, and their daughter Riva, Tahmina Khatun, wife of Bidyut, and their daughter Talha and the private car driver Minhaz.
The officer-in-charge of Kaliakoir Police Station, Motaleb Miah, said the Kolkata-bound 'Moitree Express' train crashed against the private car around 9:15am when it was passing the level crossing, leaving its driver and the four passengers dead on the spot. Informed, police rushed there and started a rescue operation.
Five trains, including Dhumketu Express, remained stuck at different railway stations and the schedule of various trains on Dhaka-Rajshahi route collapsed following the accident that caused immense sufferings to passengers.
The train communications between Dhaka and the northern parts of the country resumed around 2:30 pm after five hours of disruption, said Md Sohrab Hossain, station master of Joydebpur Railway Junction.
