MADARIPUR: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan yesterday said naval police will be deployed for ensuring safe and easy journey of homebound people on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, reports BSS.
“The government will strictly monitor all the ferry and launch terminals across the country to ensure the safe journey of homebound people ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and deployed naval police along with other law enforcement agencies”, he said.
He warned that stern actions would be taken if launch operators overload their vessels ahead of Eid-ul Fitr.
He was speaking as a chief guest at a discussion Madaripur-Kawrakandi Ferry terminal.
Shibchar district Chairman Rezaul Karim Talukder presided over the programme while Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority chairman Commodore M Mozammel Huq and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation chairman Mizanur Rahman, launch owners and workers, among others, attended the meeting.
The minister said the members of law enforcement agencies and officials of BIWTA and BIWTC will be deployed at all the ferry and launch terminals to prevent those from carrying passengers beyond their capacities and charging extra fare from passengers.
