RANGPUR: Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu yesterday said the present government has been working for mainstreaming the physically challenged people to ensure their development. He said this as the chief guest while distributing books and Tk 18.06 lakh as allowance among 301 people with disabilities of all 33 wards of the city at a ceremony arranged by “Sahar Samaj Seba” at its office. The mayor said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working for ensuring well-being of the physically challenged people and stressed for ensuring their equal socio-political rights for their sustainable development. Without mainstreaming the huge disabled population with the national development activities through ensuring their equal human rights as per the concerned UN Convention, sustainable national uplifts could not be attained, he said. Terming the people with disabilities as the integral part of the society, the city mayor said the disabled people could do the same as the able if adequate opportunities were provided to enjoy the basic human rights like others.
