Prime accused Akhi held in capital

Detectives yesterday arrested a Union Parishad chairman of Nasirnagar upazila from Bhatara in the capital in connection with the attack on Hindu Community in the upazila of Brahmanbaria, reports UNB. Chairman of Haripur UP Atikur Rahman Akhi was the prime accused in a case filed over the attack.
Iqbal Hossain, additional superintendent of Brahmanbaria Police, said a team of detective branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in Bhatara area in the capital and arrested him around 3 pm with the help of local police. On October 30, some unruly people demolished
15 Hindu temples and vandalised over 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslim community. However, Akhi went into hiding after the incident. Later, two cases were filed against 2,400 unidentified people in this connection.
