Missing girl found dead

Police recovered the decomposed body of a five-year-old-girl yesterday afternoon, five days after she went missing on July 7 from a jute field at Achintapur in sadar upazila .
The deceased has been identified as Monira Khatun, daughter of Ramzan Ali of Achintapur village in the same upazila.
 Earlier, police arrested kidnapper Huzaifa Zihad, 20, a cousin of the victim Monira Khatun, from Achintanagar village in Jhenidah Sadar upazila yesterday morning. Assistant Police Superintendent Gopinath Kanzilal said Monira was abducted in the afternoon on July 7 from outside her home when she was playing with other children. Later, the abductor demanded Tk 3 lakh as ransom from Monira’s father Ramzan Ali over mobile. Zihad has confessed to police his involvement in the abduction. Victim’s father Ramzan has filed a case with Sadar police station in this connection.


Shibir leader arrested

Narail Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Islami Chhatra Shibir district committee president Khan Abdus Sobhan from Kalna Ghat area in Lohagara upazila yesterday. Police also seized a shutter gun and two round bullets from his possession.
Superintendent of police (SP) Sardar Rakibul Islam said there are a number of cases against Sobhan with Narail sadar police station, including a assault on policemen on December 11, 2013 case.


One held with hemp

Jhenidah sadar police arrested an official of mobile phone operator Banglalink with hemp from in front of Jhenidah police station yesterday noon.
 The arrested was identified as Ahosan Habib Azad, 37, of Tentulbaira village in Sadar upazila.
 Assistant police superintendent Gopinath Kanzilal said a team of police on being tipped-off raided Banglalink outlet in the town and arrested Azad with 60 grams of hemp. He has been engaged in drug smuggling in the area for a long time, the ASP said.
