Three police constables have been suspended temporarily for their alleged involvement in extortion. They were withdrawn from duty and called back to Khagrachhari
police line yesterday, said superintendent of police Md Mazid Ali.
The three police constables are Constable Ferozul Alam (ID-799), Muhammad Moniruzzaman (ID-733) and Hafizur Rahman (ID-831).
Md Mazid Ali said the three police constables went to Kaching Marma’s Ganjapara’s residence in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila around 11pm on July 8 and detained him on the ground of his involvement drug peddling. Later, they demanded Tk 50,000 as bribes in exchange for his release.
The three police constables did release Kaching Marma after taking Tk 25,000 from him as bribes.
“They have been under suspension after a primary investigation,” the SP added.
