Customs House documents found in RMG factory

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) yesterday recovered about 65 secret documents from a garments factory at Noyabazar in the Halishahar area of Chittagong. CIID director general Dr Moinul Khan said: “Acting on a tip-off, the documents were recovered from a garments factory called Al-Amin Garments. These were documents of the Chittagong Customs House and hidden inside furniture and the office chief’s chair."
“We are surprised how the important documents of such a key installation point (KPI) went there,” he added. Among the documents, 11 are related to bank guarantee, 43 to different trials, and the remaining 12 are revenue-related. “We're surprised that bank grantee documents were found there. We're trying to find out why and how the documents went there,” said Monirul Islam. The CIID said they were investigating the matter. When contacted, AFM Abdullah Khan, commissioner of the Chittagong Customs House, told The Independent: “We're not yet sure about the nature of the documents. We’ll know the matter fully after getting a report. At times, we give some documents to lawyers for their opinion on some of our cases. I have been told some of those documents were found in the factory.” “Still, I’m not certain whether those are our documents. If any missing paper of any department is found there, we’ll stern action against the officials concerned,” he said.
