Fog disrupts movement
of ferries

Thick fog yesterday stranded 16 ferries plying between Daulatdia and Paturia terminals for five hours across the Padma, leaving a long tailback of vehicles on both sides of the river. A BIWTC official Ajmal at Paturia said the trouble lasted between 4-45am till 9-45am as the visibility was reduced to near zero due to the dense fog across the Padma. Travelers returning to the capital reported that the tailback on the Dhaka Aricha Highway was about four to five km long as the weekend vehicles were stranded on the highway, unable to make it to the terminal.
Similarly, long rows of vehicles clogged the road leading to the Daulatdia terminal, which included night coaches and trucks carrying perishables from the south -west for markets in the capital. Meanwhile, the Met Office forecast said thick to moderate fog are likely to prevail over the river basins, wet lands and open spaces from the early hours till morning of today.
