
The pass rate in the Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination this year is 98.51%. Like the board exams, girl students have outstripped boys in both participation and the pass rate in the PEC exams. The pass rate in the Ebtedayee exams is 95.63%, a marginal increase from last year's 95.13%. In the Ebtedayee exams, too, girls are ahead of boys in terms of the pass rate. In all, 2,788,432 out of 2,830,734 students have passed the PEC exams. Out of the successful students, 1,270,222 are boys and 1,518,210 girls. The boys’ pass rate in PEC is 98.44%, while it is 98.56% for girls.
The number of Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 holders in this year’s PEC exams is 281,898. Of the seven divisions, Dhaka obtained the highest number of GPA-5 holders—118,096. Primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman revealed the numbers at a press conference at the Secretariat yesterday. Before that, he handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban in Dhaka.
Of the seven divisions, Barisal topped the results with a pass rate of 99.09%, closely followed by Chittagong (98.54%), Khulna (98.64%), Rajshahi (98.57%), Dhaka (98.54%), Rangpur (98.34%), and Sylhet (97.25%).
Dhaka topped in the number of GPA-5 holders (118,096), followed by Chittagong (56,413), Rajshahi (32,664), Khulna (25,089), Barisal (10,831), Rangpur (31,497), and Sylhet (7,308). At least 10.11% students obtained GPA-5 in the PEC exams. Of the 64 districts, Munshiganj scored an enviable 100% pass rate for yet another year. Sunamganj district’s score was the lowest (95.91%). There were 85,112 schools which saw a 100% per cent pass rate, while no students passed from 55 schools. Of the 508 upazilas or thanas, 17 upazilas scored a 100% pass rate. Ruma upazila in Bandarban district has the lowest pass rate (84.62%). As many as 188 educational institutions did not participate in the primary exams. This number was 204 last year. In all, 4,332 physically challenged students took part in the exams. As many as 4,165 of them passed, with a pass rate of 96.14%. The pass rate of the Ebtedayee exams was 95.85%. In all, 246,818 out of 257,500 students were successful. Of the successful students, 125,160 are boys (95.63%) and 121,658 girls (96.08%).
A total of 5,948 students obtained GPA-5 this year. The figure was 5,473 last year. In all, 209 physically challenged students took part in the exams and 198 were successful with a pass rate of 94.74%. Rajshahi topped the divisions in terms of pass percentage (98.03%), while Sylhet fared the worst (92.04%). Lalmonirhat topped the districts in terms of pass percentage (99.88%), while Habiganj was at the bottom (87.06%). As many as 8,567 madrasas in 105 upazillas scored a 100% pass rate. There were 26 madrasas with no success in the Ebtedayee exams.
