Five killed in road accidents

Five people were killed in separate road accidents in Laxmipur, Noakhali and Jessore districts yesterday.
In Laxmipur, a CNG-run auto rickshaw driver was killed and another injured as his vehicle collided head-on with a pickup van at Charchamita Bazar on Laxmipur-Dhaka highway in Sadar upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, son of Nasir Ahmmed, a resident of Charboga village in Raipur upazila.
In Jessore, two students of Jessore MM College were killed in a road accident at Hushtola on Jessore-Khulna road yesterday. The deceased were Popy, 25, and Rumi, 24, students of masters final year and inhabitants of Dattakona village in Monirampur upazila of the district.
OC of Kotwali Police Station Sheikh Elias Hossain said the accident took place at about 1.30 pm when a Khulna bound truck hit then while they were returning from the college by riding a rented motorcycle, leaving Popy dead on the spot and Rumi and motorcycle driver Nasiruddin, 30, seriously injured. Local people sent the injured to Jessore Medical College Hospital where Rumi died.
In Noakhali, two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Samiti Bazar on Sonapur-Banglabazar road in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Muktipada Majumdar, 45, son of Krishnapada Majumdar, a resident of Boiragi Bazar in Subarnachar upazila, and Faruk, 40, a resident of Musapur village in Companyganj upazila.
