The National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2015 as well as Environment Fair, marking the World Environment Day, will begin today in the capital, reports BSS.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair at 10 am at Krishibid Institute Auditorium. After that she will also inaugurate the three-day Environment Fair at trade fair field here,” Forest and Environment Minister Anwar Hossain Manju told journalists yesterday at a press conference at a city hotel.
The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will handover “National Environment Award 2015” to Advocate Monjil Morshed and Abdul Mukit Mojumder for their outstanding contribution in environment preservation and pollution control during the inaugural ceremony.
He said the Prime Minister would also handover “Prime Minister’s National Award for Tree Plantation” to 30 individuals or organizations for their contribution in the tree plantation campaign.
Noting that 25 percent of total land of a country must be covered with forest, Manju said presently Bangladesh has forest on its 13 percent of land. “This was only 10 per cent before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had formed the government,” he said.
