The ruling Awami League will hold a grand rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan on January 10, to mark the homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, at a press briefing, announced the prgramme after a meeting with party secretaries at the AL President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital yesterday.
“We shall hold a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to mark the homecoming day of Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, where party President Sheikh Hasina is expected to chair,” he said. “Today we have held our first meeting and several preparatory meetings will be held later to make the grand rally successful,” Quader added. Joint general secretaries of the party Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dipu Moni, Abdur Rahman, and other city leaders of the party attended the meeting. On January 10, 1972, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to independent Bangladesh after his release from Pakistan jail.
