Recently the Yunnan Provincial Government issued Yunnan Province Tourist Culture Industry Development Program for 2016-2020 (referred to below as “The Program”), as well as the Yunnan Province Tourist Culture Industry Development Program’s Execution Scheme for 2016 -2020 (referred to below as “The Scheme”).
The Program suggests that by the year 2020, Yunnan Province will see tourist traffic exceeding 600 million visits, creating total income from tourist culture exceed one trillion yuan, and the total income from tourism in the province will also exceed one trillion yuan.
The Program proposes that, “By greatly developing the seven major industries of sightseeing, holiday-taking, wellness, entertainment, commercial conferences and exhibitions, commodities and shopping, and the food, beverage and lodging industries, we should also cultivate ten key tourist products. These include ecotourism, holiday taking, retirement and wellness travel, medical tourism, camping and driving, outdoor sports, art performances, commercial conferences and exhibitions, low altitude tourism, and border crossing tourism. Thus, we can boost the transformation of the province’s tourism culture construction. From the traditional scenic spots to a full-range tourism development pattern, Yunnan will boost the transformation of its tourist culture products, from the simple sightseeing type to the compound type of products that integrate sightseeing, holiday taking and health preservation into one. We will guide tourist cultural consumption in its development, from simple low-leveled consumption to high-end consumption with diversified modes.
By the year 2020,we shall try to make the total tourists received by our province exceed 600 million visits, make our total income from tourism culture exceed one trillion yuan, and make the annual growth rates 13% and 19% respectively. The goal is to make each tourists’ spend at least 2,000 yuan, and add 320 billion yuan to the industry. This will account for 15% of the total output value of the province and make the number of people directly or indirectly involved in the tourism industry reach ten million people.
