MJ Akbar meets Mahmood Ali

State Minister for Indian External Affairs MJ Akbar yesterday met Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali MP at the Elegant Room Bangabandhu International Convention Centre in the city, reports UNB.
Palestine Foreign Minister Dr Riad Malki also paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the 9th GFMD Summit.
During the talks, both Foreign Ministers discussed the ways to further deepen the bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries building upon the excellent political understanding and cooperation.
Although it was for the GFMD meeting, this was the first time the Palestinian Foreign Minister paid a visit to Bangladesh and hoped to pay some more visits in the days ahead, foreign ministry said here in a statement.
Both the ministers discussed how to further the bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, education, agriculture, security and military fields.
The proposal for having a mechanism for political consultation was discussed and both sides agreed that it would further streamline the consultation mechanism.
The matter of waiving visa for diplomatic passport holders came up for discussions.
Both sides agreed to translate the excellent cooperation and understanding at various levels including the business people and people in general.
Later, Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation the United Arab Emirates also paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Minister Ali at the same venue.
Referring to the recent visit of a technical team to Bangladesh, the UAE minister said that they are satisfied at the recent initiatives taken by Bangladesh to prepare its human resources through improving training facilities.
He expects that very soon the UAE would be able to start recruiting skilled manpower and others from Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister thanked the UAE Minister to visit Bangladesh at a very important time during the GFMD.
Ali hoped both the two brotherly countries would further collaborate to expand the bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
Director General of IOM Ambassador William Lacyy Swing met Foreign Minister Ali at BICC. DG IOM praised the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the handling of the situation at Bangladesh-Myanmar border under difficulties.
Bangladesh already constrained by huge number of documented and undocumented people coming in from Myanmar over a long time, have extended humanitarian assistance (food, medicine etc) to those who have crossed the border into Bangladesh.
