Anisul talks tough against extrajudicial killings

Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the government will take stern action if incidents of extrajudicial killing or oppression are brought to its notice, reports UNB. “We believe extrajudicial killing is a great hindrance towards establishing the rule of law. We’ll take stern action if these incidents are brought to our notice,” he said.
The minister came up the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a programme at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital, marking the International Human Rights Day.
About the missing of some people in recent days, he said law enforcement agencies are investigating the incidents. “The government is firm to act as per the Constitution. The government is taking necessary action when the incidents of extrajudicial killings are reported,” Anisul Huq said. Presided over by National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, the programme was attended, among others, by commission member M Nazrul Islam and UNDP deputy country director Nick Beresford.
