Eradication of child marriage 
to flourish female edn stressed

RANGPUR: Eradication of child marriage and sexual harassment from the society through creating public awareness has become imperative to properly flourish female education, women leadership and empowerment, reports BSS.The opinion came at an awareness building gathering of the students and guardians at Haji Boyen Uddin Public High School ground under Pirganj upazila yesterday afternoon.
Pirganj upazila administration with assistance of Upazila Governance Project organised the events followed by oath-taking ceremony participated by students and guardians and showing red cards against child marriage and sexual harassment.
With Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aminul Islam in the chair, Upazila Parishad Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal attended the event as the chief guest. Mayor of Pirganj municipality Abu Saleh Md Tazimul Islam Shamim addressed the discussion as the special guest.
The speakers said the extent of child marriage and sexual harassment already started reducing though the menaces turned into chronic social diseases hampering normal growth and education of the female students.Mayor Abu Saleh said child marriage must be eradicated for properly educating the female students and flourishing their talents to enhance women leadership and empowerment in building gender discrimination free society.The chief guest called upon the teachers, guardians, public representatives, officials, religious and civil society members for launching a vigorous social movement to free the society from early marriage and sexual harassment. At the end, the chief and special guests, along with hundreds of students and guardians, participated in the concluding event of taking oath and showing red cards against child marriage and sexual harassment. Pirganj Upazila Vice-chairmen Monayem Sarker Manu and Habiba Begum Mithy, Medical Officer of Pirganj Upazila Health Complex Abdul Hakim, addressed the programme, among others.
