Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) authorities yesterday distributed seeds of High Yielding Variety rice among the rural women in Mymensingh to improve their socioeconomic status. A total of 100 female farmers received the rice seeds of BINA-10 dhan, a salt tolerant short duration variety and BINA-11 dhan enriched with iron.
Funded by BAU, ‘Production and dissemination of stress tolerant and nutritional rice varieties to the farmers of Bangladesh’ project distributed the seeds at the Agriculture Faculty conference room.
BAU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Ali Akbar attended the programme as chief guest with Professor Dr Lutful Hassan, head of the project, was in the chair.
Professor Dr Monjurul Alam, director of BAU Research System attended the programme as the special guest while Andrea B Bohn, associate director, INGENAES, University of Illinios, USA attended the seed distribution programme as the guest of Honor.
