Enayet, Nabila move up in mixed doubles

Three Bangladeshi competitors entered into the men’s singles second round as the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Open Badminton International Challenge-2016  Tournament got off to a lively start at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Gymnasium in the capital yesterday.

Twelve men’s singles, two women’s single and even number of mixed doubles matches were decided on the opening day. State minister for youth and sports Biren Sikder inaugurated the tournament as chief guest. Over 100 shuttlers including 39 women drawn from 13 countries are taking part in the tournament.
Abdul Hamid Lokman, Ahsan Habib Parash and Lal Chand are the three players of Bangladesh to move into the next round. Lokman received walkover against Boon Hui Lim of Malaysia, Parash beat Krisda Kolum of Thailand 21-14, 21-19 and Lal Chand beat Deepak Bohara of Nepal 21-16, 21-14 in their respective matches.
Local shuttlers Enayetullah and Nabila Akhtar came out with flying colours in the mixed doubles event beating Hussein Zayan Shaheed (Malaysia) and Fathullah Ismail of Maldives 19-21, 21-10, 2-13. Bangladesh lost in both women’s singles matches. Reshma Karthik of India beat Shapla Akhtar  21-13, 21-16 and Laurence Lim of Australia beat Erina Parvin Ratna 24-26, 21-15, 2-12.
