Popular theatre troupe Nagorik Natyangan will stage its much acclaimed production titled ‘Gahar Badshah O Banesa Poree’ today at the Mahila Samiti Mancha in the capital’s Baily Road, as a part of 10-day theatre festival titled ‘BotTala Rangamela’. The event featuring new plays has been organised to celebrate 8th founding anniversary of theatre troupe BotTala. Based on a folk story, the play ‘Gahar Badshah O Banesa Poree’ is the 20th production of the troupe, and through the play, actress Hridi Haque made her debut as a director.
The story of the play revolves around the Bishingsha Badshah, who ventures into the forest named Gilamight for hunting. After accidentally killing a human being, he is cursed by the mother. After he is blessed with two sons, one of the sons named Gahar goes hunting in Gilamight forest, where besides animals, terrible giants and even fairies exist. He is captured by an evil giant. From there the story of his escape through struggles and battles, meeting and falling in love with a fairy named Banesa Poree and other incidents are shown.
To make the play more interesting to the audience, it features all the characters of folk stories like Raja-Badshah (King), Ujir (Minister), Danob (Giant), Poree (Fairy), hunting scenes in the mystical forest, folk songs etc.
The role of Gahar will be played by two youngsters named Asib Chowdhury and Jewel Johur, while director of the play Hridi Haque will play the role of Banesa Poree.
