Outlaw leader arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a leader of banned outfit Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML) on Chuadanga-Jhenidah highway in Haidarpur area of Sadar upazila on Friday night.
The arrestee was identified as Rustom Ali, 36, a leader of the banned outfit and son of Abdul Gafur, a resident of Tiorbila village of Alamdanga upazila.
Acting on secret information, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area at night and arrested Rustom along with a revolver and four rounds of bullets. Later, he was handed over to police.
A case was filed in this connection, said Tozammel Haque, officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Man held with two pistols

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with two pistols, two magazines and five rounds of bullets from Teroghor in Benapole border area on Friday night.
The arrestee was identified as Mukul Hossain, 40, a resident of Doulatpur village of the area.
Lt Col Arifur Rahman, commander of BGB battalion 21, said tipped off, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Mukul while he was entering the country from India around 11.30pm.
Later, BGB members recovered two pistols, two magazines and five rounds of bullets after searching his body.
The arrestee was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection.
Valuables looted from house
Moulvibazar: Robbers looted valuables worth about Tk 12 lakh from a house in Dharkapan area of the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.
Local people said a gang of robbers, numbering 10-15, stormed into the house of one Fazlur Rahman Faruk, breaking the collapsible gate and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint in the dead of night. The robbers looted Tk 3 lakh cash, 20 tola gold ornaments and other valuables from the house and left the place with the booty.
A case was filed with Kotwali Police Station in this connection.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shah Jalal and Officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station Akil Uddin visited the spot.
Man held with 60 tola gold
Faridpur: Police arrested a man along with 60 tola gold from Kamarkhali Garai Bridge Toll Plaza area on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Madhukhali upazila on Friday night, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Habibar Rahman, 52.
Saiful Islam, sub-inspector of Madhukhali Police Station, said tipped-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a bus of HR Paribahan around 11.30pm. Later, the law enforcers recovered 60 tola gold after searching Habibar’s body and arrested him.
A case was filed in this connection.
1.35 lakh yaba tablets recovered
Cox’s Bazar: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 1.35 lakh pieces of yaba tablets from Keruntali area in Teknaf upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Sources said a patrol team of the coast guard’s Teknaf station, led by Lt Nafiur Rahman, conducted a drive in the area and recovered 1.35 lakh pieces of the contraband tablets around 2.30am.
However, no one was arrested as the peddlers fled the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
58 arrested in Satkhira
SATHKHIRA: Police in separate drives arrested 58 people and recovered illegal drugs from seven upazilas of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
Police said the arrested were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 19 people, Kalaroa police 11 with 10 bottles of phensidyl, Tala police two, Kaliganj police nine with Yaba tablets and hemp, Shyamnagar police arrested seven with hemp and yaba, Assasuni police four, Debhata police three and Patkelghata police arrested three persons.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.

5,263 blankets sanctioned
for Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: The Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management has sanctioned 5,263 pieces of blankets for distribution among destitute people of four upazilas of the district during the current winter season, reports BSS.
Chuadanga District Relief and Disaster Management Office sources said of the total blankets, 1,548 pieces have been sanctioned for Chuadanga Sadar upazila, 1,515 pieces for Alamdanga upazila, 1,320 pieces for Damurhuda upazila and 880 pieces for Jibannagar upazila.
The allocated blankets have already been sent to the concerned upazilas for distribution among the poor people, the sources added.
BANGLADESH NGO FOUNDATION
Founding anniversary observed
FARIDPUR: Founding anniversary of Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF) was observed on Friday through holding rally and discussion, reports BSS.
Bangladesh NGO Foundation was floated on December 2, 2004 with the object of attaining the millennium development goals (MDGs).
The rally was brought out by members of a number of NGOs in the town. DC Umme Salma Tanzia and Police Super Shubhash Chandra Ghose attended the rally, among others. NGO personality Azharul Islam chaired the post-rally discussion.
