Four Bangladeshi women and a child returned home through Benapole check post on Friday night after languishing in Indian prison for two years.
The returnees were identified as Sultana Khatun, 24, Ayesha Begum, 18, and Rubida Khatun alias Ramesa, 19, of Bandarban, and Masura Begum, 28, and Abdullah Al Mamun, 3, of Khulna district.
Members of Border Security Force handed them over to the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Benapole check post at night.
Nazrul Islam, commander of Benapole BGB Camp, said the four Bangladeshi women and a child had illegally entered the Indian territory two and half years ago without valid documents through Jessore border point in search of better jobs. Indian police arrested them from a house in Kolkata.A case was filed against them and they were sent to jail by a court and served two years’ jail term.
Upon completion of the jail term, they were kept in a shelter home there.Later, BSF handed them over to BGB through Benapole check post at night.
Motiar Rahman, sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station, said they handed the returnees over to their families through Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association.
