Bringing Happiness To The Street Children

Bringing Happiness To The Street Children

Nawshin Urbi

Eid brings unlimited happiness in the lives of Muslims who spend a whole month fasting and performing their religious acts. It is the month of sacrifice. Muslims must learn self control and patience during this month. The reason why the Almighty has created such a rule for the Muslims is to understand the sufferings and inhuman conditions of those who are less fortunate. These people are unable to arrange their daily bread. Sometimes they starve throughout the whole day without having to eat anything. But for us, as a reward at the end of the month colourful Eid greets us with its festive look. Besides fasting everyone is engaged in the task of buying new and expensive clothes to wear on the Eid day.
A month of shopping and preparation comes down to this one day. But are we aware of the people who struggle every second to survive in this cruel city? Between all the luxury and all the money that we spend on items that carries mere importance to us, does it ever click to us what kind of trauma these people go through? The pavements beside large highways are not the appropriate place for the children to be living on. These street children have dreams. Even they have the right to pick up pen and paper and learn the ABCs. The right to go to school like any other kid. But not having the right opportunity these children are deprived of these rights.  Maybe it is not possible for us to give every single kid living in every corner of the slum the happiness of Eid, but if we try and take initiatives then maybe some of these street children can be fortunate enough to smile on the Eid day, to know how it feels to wear new clothes, to experience the excitement of putting on henna on their hands, to be happy on the Eid day for once in their life. To make all these possible the youngsters of our country are creating different kinds of events. Through  the social media site Facebook, it spreads more and more and more youngsters volunteer for organizing different feasts and tasks to bring a smile on these children’s faces. A similar organization on Facebook called ‘Cholo Kori’ authorised by Himu Rahman has created an event called ‘Rongin Eid’ for the slum children. Its a very inspiring attempt to do something nice for these street children. A lot of people have joined this event to serve the less fortunate. Another group run by aspiring college students named ‘Ahoban’ have been working around three years for the welfare of these less fortunate people. So as we can see, if we raise our voice and give a little try then like these organizations then maybe one day every slum dweller of the country can smile with joy and happiness. We are hoping that day is not so far from now.
