The ruling Awami League (AL)-nominated candidate for the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election, Selina Hayat Ivy, yesterday accused AL leader Shamim Osman of spreading propaganda against her in Narayanganj. She came up with the accusation at a meeting with AL central leaders at party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the city.  During the hour-long meeting, Ivy talked with the central leaders about her campaigning strategy for the upcoming NCC polls to become victorious. She informed the central leaders that most Narayanganj district unit leaders, including some members of the Osman family, were with her. But Shamim Osman himself was spreading falsehood against her, she alleged.
Ivy expressed optimism that she would be victorious in the NCC poll if everything went according to the plan. She said it would be great if Shamim Osman remained with her, but it would be better still if the local AL leader played a silent role during the campaigning.
Ivy also requested the central leaders to send a delegation of pro-AL minority leaders to seek vote from the minority community of Narayanganj.
Shamim Osman told The Independent that he would join the election campaign in favour of Ivy. “Even if Ivy does not invite me to join her election campaign, I would personally campaign in favour of the party symbol,” he said. Talking to this correspondent, AL joint general secretary Dipu Moni said, “We sat for discussion at party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office yesterday. We discussed the strategy of our candidate’s election campaign in the NCC poll there.”
