RAB arrests five ‘Lybia-based 
kidnappers’, victim rescued

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in two separate drives in the capital and Faridpur arrested five kidnappers who had been allegedly involved in abducting Bangladeshi nationals in Libya to collect ransom. The elite force also rescued a victim from their clutches, said a RAB press release.
According to the RAB, some Libya repatriate Bangladeshis in association with foreigners are involved in kidnapping of some Bangladeshis living in the war affected country. They are forcibly collecting ransom from the relatives of the victims. The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and one Md Achan Ullah, son of Monin Ullah, hailing from Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district recently filed a complain to the RAB.
During the investigation, RAB officials came to know that a Libya repatriate Bangladeshi Md Belal Matbor, hailing from Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district is leading the kidnapping gang. Zakir alias Saju and his father Libya repatriate Bangladeshi Hantu Mollah are collecting the ransom through mobile banking in Bangladesh.
RAB also came to know that the gang leader Md Belal Matbor and Hantu are currently staying in the country. RAB said, victim Foyez released from the hand of the gang on September 26 by giving a ransom of Tk 1 lakh 20 thousand. But they hijacked his passport and tortured him, he informed RAB.
Later, a team of RAB-3 raided at Faridpur and arrested Abdus Kuddus Mollah, Hantu. During the primary interrogation, they informed RAB that the kingpin was currently in Libya. But RAB arrested Belal from city’s Tejgaon area.
In another raid, a team of RAB-1 arrested two kidnappers of another gang. They were identified as Md Liton Khan and Md Nur Mohammad.
According to the Rentu Khan, younger brother of victim Md Mintu Ali Khan, the gang collected a ransom of Tk 1 lakh and 10 thousand by kidnapping the victim.
After getting release, the victim returned to the country. The same gang again tried to kidnap Mintu again from Bangladesh. Later, the victim’s family lodged a complaint against the gang to RAB.
