Jamaat leader held in Bagerhat
Bagerhat: Police arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Srifaltala village in Rampal upazila early yesterday on charge of subversive activity.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Asaduzzaman, 45, a member of Rampal upazila unit Jamaat.
Belayet Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station, said tipped-off, a team of police conducted a raid at the house of Asaduzzaman in the area and arrested him in the dead of night.
The Jamaat leader was wanted in a case filed for subversive activities, said the OC.
37 arrested in Satkhira
SATHKHIRA: Police, in special drives from Friday night to yesterday morning, arrested 37 accused, including two Jamaat-e-Islami activists, on various charges from seven upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons. Police said the arrested were sent to jail yesterday morning.
Juba League conference held
PANCHAGARH: The triennial conference of the Panchagarh chapter of Awami Jub League was held on Debdarutola ground in Debiganj upazila on Friday afternoon, reports BSS.
Local parliament member Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan inaugurated the conference as the chief guest by hoisting national and party flags.
Debiganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Hasnat Zaman Chowdary and Debiganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Anower Sadat were present as special guests.
Addressing the occasion, the leaders urged the Juba League activists to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to win the fourth coming general elections.
Clean city drive launched
GOPALGANJ: Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj Moklesur Rahman yesterday inaugurated a cleanliness drive in the district town, reports BSS.
The drive was organised by Gopalganj Municipality.
District unit of Awami League Secretary Mahbub Ali Khan, Mayor Kazi Liakot Ali Leku and executive engineer of the municipality Abinash Sarkar, among others, were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC urged all to keep the town clean for their own interests. He said, “We should not leave garbage in open spaces rather it is the duty of every citizen to dispose the wastes in specified places.”
There is no alternative to maintaining cleanliness for improving environment and ensuring congenial healthy atmosphere for leading a better life, he added.
