Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Gopalganj and Rangpur districts yesterday, report agencies.
In Gopalganj, a woman and her son were killed in a head-on collision between a pick-up van and a truck at Bijoypasha in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Rubia, 35, wife of Hasibur Rahman, a resident of Haridaspur village of the upazila, and their son Rifat, 5.
Selim Reza, inspector of Sadar Police Station, said the Gopalganj-bound pick-up van carrying the family from Dhaka collided with the truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway in the area around 5.30am, leaving Rubia and Rifat dead on the spot and Hasibur injured. The injured was first admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, and later shifted to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
In Rangpur, two persons were killed in a head-on collision between two trucks at Boiragiganj point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Mithapukur upazila yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Limon Miah, 20, of Khamar Mokimpur village and Shahjahan Ali, 33, of Chithuli Dakshinpara village in the upazila.
“The accident occurred when a Rangpur bound timber-laden truck from Bogra hit a standing potato-laden truck, leaving Limon dead on the spot and injuring Shahjahan at around 10 am,” Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur police Humayun Kabir said.Police with the help of local people rescued the injured person and sent him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday afternoon.
Police seized both the trucks, the OC added.
