11 killed in road crashes in 4 dists

At least eleven people, including 3 in the capital, were killed in road accidents in Dhaka, Natore, Sunamganj and Gopalganj discticts yesterday, reports UNB. In the capital, three people, including a college student, were killed in two road accidents in Jatrabari and Tikatoli areas. The victims were identified as Amir Hossain Apu, 18, a student of Dhanmondi Ideal College, Mantu Miah, 40, a hawker, and Rina Akhter, 28. Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said a ‘Turag Paribahan’ bus ploughed through the footpath and crashed into Apu and Mantu at Dhalpur of Jatrabari around 5:30 pm after its driver lost control over the steering, killing them on the spot. Apu was buying food from Mantu’s footpath shop when the accident took place. In the other incident, a bus hit a rickshaw carrying Rina in front of Ovisar cinema hall at Tikatoli in the evening, leaving her injured. She was taken to the DMCH where doctors declared her dead.
In Natore, five people were killed and two others injured as a truck hit a rickshaw van on Ishwardi-Lalpur road in South Lalpur area of Lalpur upazila yesterday morning.
Four of the deceased were identified as Zillur Rahman and Jahirul Islam of Sirajganj and Aminul Islam of Lalpur uapzila and Raju.
The accident took place around 11:30 am when the truck hit the van carrying seven people, leaving one dead on the spot and six others injured, said Abu Obayed, officer-in-charge of Lalpur Police Station.
The injured were taken to Sadar hospital where doctors declared three people dead. Besides, another injured man died way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
In Sunamganj, two pedestrians were killed after being hit by a minibus on Sylhet-Sunamganj highway in Borokapon area in Chhatok upazila around 11.30am.
The deceased were identified as Nadim, 10, son of Samsu Miah, and Kachmala Begum, 40, wife of Mochhok Ali, residents of Kamrangi village of the upazila.
Nur Hossain, sub-inspector of Jauyabazar Police camp, said  the Sunamganj-bound speeding minibus from Sylhet hit them on the highway, leaving Nadim dead on the spot and Kachmala critically injured.
Later, the injured was taken to Sylhet M A G Osmani Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
However, police arrested minibus driver Parvej from the spot.
In Gopalganj, a university student was killed as a truck hit his motorcycle in the district town in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Habibur Rahman, 28, son Abdul Zabbar and a 1st year of student of LLB (pass) course of Gopalganj Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue.
