Kathak Dance evening at Nat’l Museum today

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Kathak Dance Recital by Moumita Roy today at Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) in the capital’s Shahbag. Moumita Roy is a promising Bangladeshi dancer who has completed her graduation in Kathak Dance from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata under ICCR scholarship. Presently, she is doing her post graduation there and is also taking training at Upasana Center for Dance in Kolkata under renowned Kathak dancer Guru Ashimbandhu Bhattacharya. Earlier, she took training in ‘Lucknow Gharana’ from Monalisa Roy at IGCC in Dhaka. She has participated in many workshops such as Kathak dance Workshop by Pandit Birju Maharaj, Goudiya dance workshop in 2004, contemporary dance conducted by Dr Urmoimala Sarkar, workshop on Chinese Opera directed by Dr Chua Soo Pong.
Moumita Roy is an enlisted artist of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. She has performed in Shadhona’s Production of ‘Tasher Desh’, in Bangladesh and also in India in Delhi, Kolkata and Ranchi. She has performed in Bhutan and India as part of a cultural delegation of Bangladesh Government. Roy has also got a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Eden College, Dhaka.
